The Republican Convention: The largest gathering of ignorance and hate in human history?

I have watched as much of the Republican Convention as I can bear and it has not been easy.   The lies.   The hate.   The ignorance.   It is truly sad to see all these people gather around in one location and relish in all this.

It is striking what is never discussed or mentioned at the Republican Convention.   No one there has mentioned the most important civil rights issue of our time:  Marriage Equality.   No one there defends it.

No discussion of the greatest danger our world faces today:  Climate Change.

No discussion of gun violence.

What do Republicans want?

They want tax cuts for the rich.  They want to arm America and start new wars.   They want to take away our health care.

Who are these people?

Republicans in Congress are to blame for the economy

A  country called the "United States"  is actually in rather decent health right now and was not when President Obama became president.  You would be rational enough to realize that 8 years of complete neglect takes more than 4 years (2 of which were spent with a congress that was paralyzed by party politics) to fix.

A president can do nothing unless congress acts. A president cannot fix the economy unilaterally. And for the last 2 years congress has had a House of Representatives intent on opposing every suggestion from anyone based not on the actual idea but purely on the letter after their name.

To blame that on Obama is silly and simply not rational.

Simply put, the president is not a king. He cannot act on his own and cannot control congress. The buck has to stop at the top - but when it comes to laws and allowing the president to act on the economy, the top is currently Boehner.

Paul Ryan used Social Security to Pay for College ul-Ryan-collected-Social-Security-benefits-until-he-was-18
So Paul Ryan's father unfortunately died when he was a teenager (worse than that, Ryan was the one who found the body. Fortunately for him his family had help getting by from Social Security which gave them survivor's benefits. Ryan apparently squirreled away enough of this money to pay his way through college.

Seems like Ryan is another "do as I say not as I do" Republican who thinks others shouldn't benefit from the same system that he did.

Too funny: Romney thinks picking a running mate will help him win in November

Why hasn't Romney paid taxes in ten years?

WSJ: "Romney doesn't need to talk about America becoming like Europe. He needs to warn us about America becoming like California." LOL

This is one of the most ridiculous items I have seen published in the print edition of Fox News:

"When Americans go to Europe they see everything but the taxes. The taxes are terrible. But that's Europe's business and they'll have to figure it out. Yes what happens there has implications for us but still, they're there and we're here.

What Americans are worried about, take as a warning sign, and are heavily invested in is California—that mythic place where Sutter struck gold, where the movies were invented, where the geniuses of the Internet age planted their flag, built their campuses, changed our world.

We care about California. We read every day of the bankruptcies, the reduced city services, the businesses fleeing. California is going down. How amazing is it that this is happening in the middle of a presidential campaign and our candidates aren't even talking about it?"

California is going down? California is LEADING THE WAY!

California is rich in cultural, ethnic, racial and sexual diversity.   California is building high-speed rail and has invested in Green Energy.   It has put in place enacted environmental standards to slow the threat of Climate Change.    California is rich in free-thinkers and its a state that consistently votes for Democrats to promote sensible change and growth.

Even corporate America realizes this.   That's why California is home to Apple, Facebook, Yahoo, Google, Current TV, Twitter and many others.

People from all over the world go to California.   They are not going to any red state with high levels of pollution, illiteracy and religious extremism.

Can Conservatives get any more desperate?

Gary Johnson: The rational alternative to Mitt Romney

I believe that there are rational people who don't want to vote for Mitt Romney but for various reasons don't want to vote for President Obama. For those people, I suggest that they consider Gary Johnson.

Gary Johnson opposes the Bush policies of the PATRIOT Act which violate people's rights. He supports ending the so-called "war on drugs" and respecting peoples rights.

Gary Johnson should be in the presidential debates to offer a sane alternative to Mitt Romney.

Defend Marriage Equality and Gay Rights On Friday, August 3rd

As everyone knows, the Christian fast food chain, Chick-fil-A, has publicly come out in favor of discrimination against Marriage Equality and Gay Rights.

On Friday, August 3rd, millions of people will gather at Chick-fil-A locations to defend their rights and to protest against Christian bigotry by expressing the opposite of Christianity: Affection and Love.

Chick Fil A is a very bad, very negative organization. It funds organizations that have been caught
falsifying data about gay adoption, Pray Away Gays and that work against Marriage Equality rights.

Chick-fil-a is clustered in the southeast U.S., basically the old deep south where you will find most bigots and intolerant Christian types.    Let's keep it that way.   We don't them in our cities, certainly not here in California.
